Error Estimator for Recovered Surface Forces in Incompressible Navier{stokes Flow

چکیده
In coupled simulation of uid-structure phenomena the important unknowns for structural design are the interface forces caused by the dynamic uid pressure acting on the structure. By means of variationally consistent post-processing we may compute interaction forces that obey the principle of virtual work. Error estimates of the recovered quantities may be provided by solving a related (dual) adjoint problem. This may be combined with adaptive h-reenement to obtain an optimal mesh for recovery of interaction forces. The increased accuracy in forces obtained by means of the developed recovery scheme compared to traditional methods is demonstrated on an incompressible steady state example with known analytical solution.

Adaptive Defect-Correction Methods for Viscous Incompressible Flow Problems
We consider a defect correction method (DCM) which has been used extensively in applications where solutions have sharp transition regions, such as high Reynolds number fluid flow problems. A reliable a posteriori error estimator is derived for a defect correction method. The estimator is further studied for two examples: (a) the case of a linear-diffusion, nonlinear convection-reaction equatio...
متن کاملSimulation of Gravity Wave Propagation in Free Surface Flows by an Incompressible SPH Algorithm
This paper presents an incompressible smoothed particle hydrodynamics (SPH) model to simulate wave propagation in a free surface flow. The Navier-Stokes equations are solved in a Lagrangian framework using a three-step fractional method. In the first step, a temporary velocity field is provided according to the relevant body forces. This velocity field is renewed in the second step to include t...
متن کاملReliable a posteriori error control for nonconforming finite element approximation of Stokes flow
We derive computable a posteriori error estimates for the lowest order nonconforming Crouzeix–Raviart element applied to the approximation of incompressible Stokes flow. The estimator provides an explicit upper bound that is free of any unknown constants, provided that a reasonable lower bound for the inf-sup constant of the underlying problem is available. In addition, it is shown that the est...
متن کاملTurbulent Flow over Cars
In this paper the flow behaviour over a number of car bodies is studied. For this purpose the unsteady 2-D incompressible Navier-Stokes equations have been applied. After averaging and nondimensionalizing the equations, the system of equations has been transformed from the Cartesian (x-y) coordinates to a body fitted generalized (-) coordinate. As the flow is incompressible, the density in the ...
متن کاملAdaptive time-step with anisotropic meshing for incompressible flows
This talk focuses on the development of a new space and time adaptive method for incompressible flows. We start with an overview about the anisotropic mesh adaptation, introduced in [1]. The latter method is developed using a posteriori estimates relying on the length distribution tensor approach and the associated edge based error analysis. The key point of this work is the extension of the me...
